As great way of providing motivation, I would suggest that
positive
talk should be used for all athletes. The rule here is that all statements
to others and to oneself should have a positive slant to them. Self believe
is such a powerful tool to any athlete and allowing one to keep positive
will reinforce and strengthen this self belief.
Statements such as “I can’t go on, I have no energy
left” should be changed to “this is hard, it must be the ‘wall’ when I get
past this it will get easier.”
